Ordnance, ordinance
Sometimes you come across a word you were never quite sure of and find out there's a reason: there are two words with similiar spelling and -- if not exactly similiar meanings -- at least meanings apt to crop up in the same sort narratives.
- ord·nance
-
military supplies including weapons, ammunition, combat vehicles, and the necessary maintenance tools and equipment
- or·di·nance
- a) an authoritative decree or direction b) a public enactment, rule, or law promulgated by governmental authority

Upload
Alison,
I've uploaded my edit of Chapter 12 FA and an incomplete version of Chapter 13 with a new bridging paragraph or two at the beginning.

Rustycon Edition Cover Ready
Here's the cover for the Rustycon edition of
Mekan'stan, featuring the sketch of Amel by Yukari Yamamoto and the digital artistry of Jordan Bacon at the College of New Caledonia. Big "thank you" to Kathy Plett for making the Rustycon edition possible.

Brianna Invited to Interview
Brianna Thomas, a young writer in P.G., asked to interview us about co-authoring. She also writes with a friend who isn't living in the same town. I thought it would be a nice thing do on the blog, so I am extending Brianna an invitation.

Tinkering and twiddling
Putting up final version of TP cover, which led to changing the background, which led to ... blogger locking up on me. Is this an aesthetic comment?

Mekan'stan pdf
Hi Lynda - Adobe Acrobat (or Distiller) is playing dirty with some of your punctuation. There are %s instead of dashes (at a guess) at the bottom of p.2, middle of p.3, bottom of p.4, middle p.5, top of p.24. Don't know why it does that; I've had it do it to me on something, replacing greater than or equal to with greater than. Also if you have a chance before it goes to print: check demure/demur in the dictionary.

Messing with your prose
I have been playing around with the climax of Second Contact, trying to increase the shambles and mess! Then I began tinkering with other things as well, playing with Di Mon's head. Keep or discard at will! It's in the Second Contact folder.

Adrian Bedford
Orbital Burn author Adrian Bedford popped in to make a comment so I went to explore and found his homepage:
Adrian Bedford Very nice! So sleek and black and gray and economically presented. He's going to come to Torcon. Another reason to strive for it, budget allowing. I had high hopes of doing some RFFing there, too, with
Julie Czerneda. On "hold" for now given other expenses but still dreaming.

Mekan'stan off to KP
Handed off printed master for
Mekan'stan to Kathy Plett yesterday, for Rustycon edition. I need to remember to upload the cover art from home so I can do a PDF version of that plus the dedication page and the novella text. Once I have a complete PageMaker "book" of the three files concerned I'll compile as PDF and publish on the web site in a "digital distribution" edition. The one KP is doing for me will be 1-20 run or numbered copies created for my Rustycon 2003 appearance. You are coming to Rustycon in Jan, right Alison? At least I know your intensions were positive. If so I will give you some copies to give away to deserving ORU fans or possible future enthusiasts. If not I'll send you one for your collection of ORU artifacts, like the T-shirt and iron-ons Garth made for me. I'll add a copy of the Rustycon edition to the T-shirt donation I make to con organizers. I also owe KP at least one for the CNC library (and to see if I can thereby get the copy of the buggy version I ran off myself for the book nook de-cataloged!) and must give one to Yukari, the artist who did the Amel picture for the cover. Virginia O'Dine as well, who helped me with copy editing. I have a few other friends of the ORU I am considering, and know we ought to send at least one copy to Edge to keep them informed. So if there are "gotta gives" you know of place your orders. :-)

Trumpets and drum-roll, please!
Lynda captured it and I plastered it: the latest version of the
Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing site, in which TP has made it to the front cover above the fold.

Short glossary page
I located the
short-form glossary I had stuck up on the ORU site, complete with stylesheet. It works in IE, does not work in Netscape/Mozilla - the opposite of what I said on the phone. *Sigh*
After GRAVEYARDS is finished and after FAR ARENA is finished, I have to figure out why.
But Lynda, how did the Reetions ever manage to wind up with ONE OS for their arbiters??
