Over a thousand writers (self-identified) on google+ and lots of them in the SF genres (spec fic = SF / fantasy / horror / paranormal etc.) In a world with fewer and fewer readers there seem to be more and more writers. If one thinks of fellow writers as readers (or your work) as well as writers (of works you might enjoy) and potential kindred spirits - there's no shortage of joy.
