Author Hal Friesen has been making appearances to promote the anthologies he appears in. Hal write stories about Nestor, an unusual Nersallian who thrived during the time of the Nesak war in which Di Mon and Hangst Nersal fought as comrades in arms.

Great poster by artist Michelle Milburn for title challenge match to be featured at the Okal Rel Universe event at VCON, Saturday Oct 2, 7 p.m. Fencing instructors Devon Boorman and Craig Bowlsby will square off in a featured clash of titans. We'll also be giving away character cards, Okal Rel buttons, singing a few Okal Rel filk songs and launching Avim's Oath, Book 6 in the series, by Lynda Williams; as well as Opus 4 collection of stories set in the Okal Rel Universe and Okal Rel novella Misfit Leaves Home by Krysia Anderson.

Another tease for the cover of Opus 4. Artist Michelle Milburn is trying this and that at our suggestion. Goal is to have one by July 15. I've also heard from author Lexi on some minor adjustments to her story which I need to get to Absolute XPress early next week.

Working on Opus 4 cover. Here's a detail from the present draft idea being pondered. Absolute XPress wants to standardize covers so we're working with Michelle Milburn on this version.

The new look of the Absolute XPress site is very nice. And all the better for the appearance of Opus 4 of the Okal Rel Legacies series as a forth-coming book. We've had to make an adjustment to the cover art, and are waiting for a new cover from Michelle Milburn. Opus 4 is the companion anthology themed to Part 4: Throne Price. Stories deal with ways in which the past upsets the present.

Cover art bought from artist Michelle Milburn for Okal Rel Legacies novella Misfit Leaves Home by author Krysia Anderson. I'm working on edits of the manuscript. Interior text for Opus 04 is off to Absolute XPress for production. On the Saga front, received the front material of Part 6: Avim's Oath from Edge for proofing, and I am 70,000 words into the first draft of Part 9: Holy War.
Snippet from yesterday's production on Part 9
Sam Dem’Vrel, nee O’Pearl, stood staring at the booted, broad-shouldered bulk of Arm Commander Eler Nersal filling up her family living room and could think of nothing except how completely he failed to suit the quaintly preserved hominess of the space he occupied, with its warm wooden wainscoting, out of fashion draperies and comfortably upholstered furniture.

Slow progress continues with Opus 4. Production date for Opus 4 and Opus 5 is summer 2010. Dreadful long delay getting these two anthologies into production! Partly due to my change in job, partly to changes at Absolute XPress, and partly due to my preoccupation with getting Part 6 and Part 7 of the saga written. Determined to see the anthologies in print this summer. I am very fond of some of the stories, and committed to all of them. Summer is the production slot available with Absolute XPress and David Lott is helping me with contracts and managing payments once the contracts are done. Meanwhile, I continue to make progress with Part 8: Gathering Storm. Now up to 80,000 words of the first draft. The majority of it is set at the first Cultural Exchange between the Reetions and the Gelacks, with some excursions for visits and rescues.

I updated the wanted page with progress for Opus 4, the next Okal Rel Legacies anthology. I've spoken with Brian Hades about the title and we're full steam ahead for a production slot. Working to get stories finalized.

"Grip is about knowing who you are and where you belong, even when the whole damned indifferent universe is trying to tell you otherwise." - Berinda, in "Roots of Identity", Opus 4, by author Lexie Pakulak.
This is the interior illustration, by Richard Bartrop, picturing protagonist Meg (short for Banimeg) in a genotyping office in the town of Eastport on FarHome. Richard is also the cover artist for Opus 4, which is currently in the editing stages and should be ready for production before Xmas 2009.Labels: Lexie Pakulak, opus 4, Richard Bartrop

Artist Richard Bartrop sent me a sneak preview of his cover-in-progress for Opus 4, the fourth Okal Rel anthology. (The goal is to have these stories through editing, contracts out and back, the art in and paid for, and the book in production with Absolute XPress by the end of the summer, with print versions available by no later than Xmas 09.) I'm sharing a slice of the draft preview here.
