KP proofs RA

Update on Righteous Anger progress

Much, much thanks to Kathy Plett (KP) for putting her excellent proof-reading expertise at my service for the post-professional editing stage (by Richard of Edge) of production for Righteous Anger. It will be proofed again by Edge, I know, but KP has been a pillar for me forever and does this sort of thing in her professional capacity as a library director, as well. Every pair of eyes helps! I am mega grateful. Since proofing means reading the MS I also can't resist sharing her feedback to me, via an e-mail message, on the book itself which features Horth Nersal.

I really have enjoyed this book, a wonderful
character study, Horth is an interesting mix
of simple (straightforward) and complex thinking,
I just love the way you bring him along and
the ending is just smashing. Also, great title,
perfectly conveys what it's about. Well done once
again! Let me know when I can buy the book.

Cheers KP

Author Schelly Steelman I had only just barely got to know Schelly Steelman, a fellow author and member of the Broad Universe. She contacted me with a request to review her next book, which I had agreed to do for the new year. We exchanged a few e-mails only last week. Today, I saw a notice on the Broad Universe mailing list from her husband, Joe, informing us of her death. She was looking forward to the release of The Blue Towers, the book I will still review as planned by Jan. Her commitment to her writing is an inspiration to all of us who care about our art. See also her publisher's homepage, ArcheBooks, for an in memoriam message.

VCON 2006 Programming Nice to see my name listed among the highlights for VCON this October, in Vancouver. I actually managed to get myself on the programming this time, too! Despite my time slicing challenges with e-mail and a hostile mail filter. Many thanks to Fran and Barbara of VCON.

See Okal Rel Universe News page entry for Sep 11 for entry on 2 hour interview with CFUR radio station on Halijo Webster's YouMe&Variety program in which the following friends of the Okal Rel Universe participated in addition to myself: Sarah Trick, Krysia, Patsy Crawford, Jennifer Sparling, Brianna Thomas and Jennifer Lott. The very large MP3 download can be accessed HERE. You have to save it to disk and play it afterwards. (i.e. not streaming audio.) Takes a while to download. Alternatively, folks might be able to spot a replay of the program in the CFUR Schedule. Big thank you to Halijo Webster for having us, and inviting Jennifer Lott back to talk about her creative work, as well.

Brianna sent me a preview of the homepage for her new project, "All About Amel", a web site that is accepting donations of material from readers and writers and other contributors that is "about Amel". I've been sending her snippets (out-takes and other bits and pieces) that I am unearthing from text sketches and scene explorations which never made it into print. Maybe some previews of things destined for print, as well. K. said she might write a conversation with Amel. I've volunteered to get Amel to answer questions sent to Brianna for him (or to Von, his younger personna). :-) So long as they are in good taste, folks! I have to maintain good relations with him as well. :-) Brianna is using my favorite Amel picture of Yukari's for the homepage. Stand by! More to come.

Cover Art for Second ORU Anthology

Cover Art for Okal Rel Universe Anthology #2 by Steve Swanson Just received the finished cover art for the second Okal Rel Universe anthology, edited by John Preet. The artist is Steve Swanson. Pretty cool, huh? The ring has an organic look about it and the black in the center of the ring represents space with the rel symbol bursting out of it. We sort of have a jump-thing going on behind the symbol. The sword speaks for itself, except that Steve took care to make it echo the rel symbol and the organic element. Very classy.

Progress with the stories is coming along too, honest. John is waiting for me to get my act together, here, for a next pass. Collided with final prep for Righteous Anger which is also very close but was going to be done by now. Sigh. Books are just like software projects. No matter how long you THINK everything is going to take, it aways takes just bit longer. But it will all be worth it!

Weekend America Interview

K and T Cheer Jenny On as she reads K and T cheer Jennifer on as she reads from her Alternate Animorphs ending at a family reading observed and recorded by freelance audio-reporter Leena, on assignment for Weekend America, at the Lott/Williams household this Sunday, Sept 10, 2006.

Proud Parents Proud parents David Lott and Lynda Williams look on from a corner of a crowded living room as Jennifer reads her latest chapter.

Jennifer Lott being interviewed for Weekend America The celebrity herself :-) getting interviewed in the Lott family's yard. The show will air on Weekend America sometime soon. David will post further details here as he gets them.

Buttons go to Ness Lake

I took Okal Rel Universe buttons to camp this summer and gave them out to some friends. "Get Rel" was popular.

The Harrow Reviews The Courtesan Prince by Lynda Williams I came across a review of The Courtesan Prince in the online journal The Harrow while goggling for something else today. The review pegs the Okal Rel Universe as space opera, but intelligent space opera. I can live with that. :-) All the more so since buying The Space Opera Renaissance by David Hartwell, at World Con in LA. Lois McMaster Bujold is one of the authors whose works Hartwell designates as space opera. If that's so, then I can cope with the company. :-)

E-mail received in August from Kegedonace Press asking me to review a book by Daniel Heath Justice for a possible endorsement. I did read and enjoy the books. My review can be found on Lynda Reads , Sept 4, 2006 entry.

Dear Ms. Williams:

On behalf of Daniel Heath Justice and Kegedonce Press
(www.kegedonce.com) I am contacting you at this time to
investigate the possibility of your interest in reading
the manuscript for the second book in an exciting new
Indigenous fantasy trilogy - Wyrwood.

Daniel, the author, is a devout fan of yours and provided
your name and contact information with the hope that you
would be willing to provide a cover quote for this book.

Comments from Tatjana Chorney on the ORU

From Dr. Tatjana Chorney, with permission, extracted from an e-mail received Aug 24, 2006

Just wanted to drop a note and say that I have now read Kath and The Lorel Experiment, and have been reading Throne Price. I have enjoyed everything tremendously; you are a wonderful story teller, and your way of writing is very vivid, yet often condensed and suggestive. I see how much room you leave your votary authors to continue aspects of stories or provide "backgrounds," and also, how inviting it must be for votary authors to do so!
