Part 7: Healer's Sword is on the Edge website listed with releases for summer/fall of 2011 complete with Michelle Milburn's lovely cover picture of Ilse Marin against a battlewheel backdrop that is nicely suggestive of Horth featuring in her life. :-)

I have a feature on the Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing facebook page: "Something you may not know ... featuring Lynda Williams".

Avim's Oath is one of about 40 books put forward by their publishers for the Endeavor Award this year. Always proud to be considered. Each book is read by seven judges. That's a good bit of exposure. And the publisher has to be willing to send in the copies. Also on the list for Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing is Dave Duncan's book Pock's World.
Avim's Oath is my latest novel and the sixth installment in the Okal Rel Saga, a space operatic story populated with larger than life characters who dramatize the underpinning theme of how mankind stops short of self-destruction by means of social control despite radical differences in sexual and political norms across a multi-cultural panorama.

Edge did an Xmas Feature on Characters at Xmas including the Okal Rel Gang. Follow the link to the web site or read below.
Amel would do Christmas surrounded by as many of the people he loved as possible. He would hug the women, enjoy the food, and play with the kids. He'd help with the dishes, too. In fact he'd probably like that part best because of the happy gossiping that takes place in the kitchen.
Alivda, on the other hand, would get bored unless she got to take charge. Then it wouldn't be exciting enough for her unless there was a fire on the stove or a hot guy she could seduce, whether or not he was there with his wife.
Erien would be awkward about the social aspect until he found someone he could talk to about ways to improve the traditional aspects of the season to get through it more efficiently.
Horth would stake out a corner of the living room and stoically endure the babble of unintelligible conversation for as long as necessary to prove he could cope with it, then go jump in a rel-ship to clear his head with a little reality skimming. Unless Ilse was there. Then he'd stick it out.
Ranar would look like he was being very social but he'd actually be collecting data for an anthropological study on what the holiday meant to those present. Perry would have a hell of a good time and take home doggie bags to her Killing Reach rebels.
Ayrium would make Ameron come, incognitio, and insist he didn't talk politics with anyone.
Luthan would throw the party, with some help from Samanda O'Pearl as convener.
Eler would make a scene at the height of the evening and start a fight.

I'll be appearing as one of the authors in the Edge line up on PodioRacket.com, hosted by Brian Rathbone and Rhonda Carpenter. Guests will be: Nancy Kilpatrick, editor of Evolve: Vampire Stories of the New Undead; Alexandra McKenzie, author of Immortal Quest and Lynda Williams, author of Avim's Oath Part 6 of the Okal Rel saga.

Part 6: Avim's Oath is up on the Edge website. Guess I lost the argument about describing Luthan and Alivda as "vengeful". Or maybe that's about Vretla. :-) Delighted to see it snag on my google filter. Meanwhile, Craig Bowlsby has Part 7: Healer's Sword to review the fight scenes with his expert eye.

Far Arena appears on the left in this slide from the Edge Spring launch. For the rest of the side show, including shots of some of our favorite people - Brian Hades, Justyn Perry, Robert Sawyer, Randy McCharles and Susan Forrest - see today's homepage at Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing. Just got an exciting sneak preview of Steph St. Laurent's video of ORU event at Bridges, as well, which David Lott will be helping me get up on the blog here some post soon!Labels: Brian Hades, Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing, Far Arena, Justyn Perry, Marie Bilodeau, Randy McCharles, Robert Sawyer

Hope and expect Part 5: Far Arena will be among the books launched at Edge's swanky do in Calgary, Jun 13, 2009. Maybe even print versions of the Absolute XPress titles in the Okal Rel Legacies imprint? It will be hard typing with crossed fingers but I'll gonna try. :-)
Contact Justyn Perry (justyn@hadespublications.com) for more information about the launch event.

Back from World Con with a cold (grumble) and good memories. ONLY books were welcome in the dealer's room. There was a lovely art display next door, too, but it was nice to be in the company of fellow bibliophiles instead of feeling like an inconvenience to the gaming gang by getting underfoot. (Some of my near and dear are gamers! Just not my thing these days.) This is one of many pictures I'll be sharing as I can. The big banner used here as a backdrop for featuring Anita Hades and Justyn Perry of Edge was unfurled at the Wednesday night bash, and contains the covers of all the Hades Publications titles. The four titles of the Okal Rel Saga are there, all in a row, off to the left of this picture but you can see a bit of the Throne Price stack on the lower right.

Edge announced the coming of Absolute X Press in its last newsletter. The first six books in the lineup belong to what I'm calling, this week, the ORU Traddodiad: that is, anthologies, novellas and reference works expanding the ORU legacy. Traddodiad is a very cool Welsh word meanind 'cultural transmission' in the sense of passing on tradition. It's a mouthful, of course. The other candidate in the works is ORU Emporium. Justyn Perry and I have been using the working title Okal Rel Universe Collection to distinguish this expandable, POD/e-book line from the finite, ten-novel Okal Rel Saga in trade paperback. "Collection" is too vague and misleading, though, since a single book could be called a "collection". Naming things is hard. Absolute X Press will include more than just the Traddodiad, the ORU books just happen to be the first in the pipe here. I am editor for the Traddodiad.Labels: Absolute X Press, Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing, Justyn Perry, Okal Rel Traddodiad
Nice to see Edge books getting into circulation for reviewing. This clip is from Garth Spencer's fan publication BCSFAzine.Labels: Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing, Garth Spencer, Righteous Anger
Surf to the Edge website for some audio clips of me answering questions. Working on making them shorter and shorter, like beads on a necklace. Many beads still amount to something substantial but each is more accessible. My way of simultaneously bowing to and rebelling against the sound-byte phenomenon.- I was a special guest in Dr. Marian Scholtmeijer’s ENGL 486, Literature of the Fantastic, class on March 29. Had a good time. Give away copies of Courtesan Prince are being sent to student participants Kristin C. and Marold Feddersen. Next event I'm looking forward to is appearing in Rita McInnis-Ryan's enriched English class at D.P. Todd Secondary School, in April.
- First Expansion mailing list still down due to port to new hardware by the ORU's hosting service. My husband and webmaster David Lott is in Vienna on a special trip to see old friends, so I won't be able to fix or re-construct until he gets home.
- Heard exciting news about Alison Sinclair through the grape vine! She's sold a triology to ROC. I've sent congratulations.
- Steph has out a video interview with Nina Munteanu on site at her Chapters signing.
- I've seen the draft cover of Pretenders, Book #3 of the Okal Rel Saga. Disappointed Echo couldn't do it due to illness but delighted Brian Hades was able to find an artist to make the very tight deadline. Di Mon is on the cover, with the Monatese library for backdrop, and framed in green marble.
- Had a wonderful coffee meeting with Rémi Despres-Smyth, a master enterprise programmer and the partner of Prince George's own Garth Frizzell, CEO of Terra Cognita, to discuss his reactions to Righteous Anger and the saga, in general. Programmer/analysts seem to be one of the demographics the ORU appeals to and I am particularly honored to count Rémi as an engaged reader.
- Kept new reader Heather Ouelette, a faculty member in the UNBC Nursing Program, up very late finishing Courtesan Prince [evil gleeful laugh]. Her husband had to take the book away from her.
- Finally getting to read Courtesan Prince to my two younger daughters, oth teenagers. Gratified by their interest. It isn't a given that one's own family will be "into" one's fiction. Especially not teenagers.
- Planning to meet with Craig Bowlsby in Vancouver mid-April to discuss his novella from Horth's period in Bryllit's fleet.
- Been skyping back and forth with Justyn Perry of Edge about various things, and exchanging e-mail with Brian Hades about Pretenders. Justyn has me thinking about doing an ORU podcast with longer readings, discussions, interviews, etc.
-
- Engaged Jill Bell, the book chick, to help me with the Big Move from Windstorm Creative to Edge for the works in the extended series. Still getting my act together on this front as I work with Edge to put Pretenders to bed. :-)

Captured from the tag line of a mail out from Edge - a date for the U.S. release of Righteous Anger. Nice to see all the good company listed there, as well.
